Next Gen Lead

REPORTING TO: LEAD PASTOR | CONTRACT: FIXED TERM; 22.5 - 37.5 HOURS P/W* | SALARY: UP TO 30k**

JOB DESCRIPTION

Life Church is recruiting a Next Generation Lead. This role embodies our desire ‘to know the heart of God for ourselves and express the heart of God in the city’ and to mobilise that desire into our next generation. The Next Generation Lead will oversee, develop and support, our next generation ministries. This broad reach role incorporates our preschool creche right through to the mentorship of our student team, providing vision and leadership for discipling and caring for our younger generation helping each person to grow in faith.

 A key responsibility is strategizing, nurturing and equipping those already in our existing next generation ministries whilst looking to establish fresh initiatives, particularly for our high school aged people. The role will include the recruitment and training of new servers to energise our church for mission to the next generation, both inside and outside the church.

The Next Generation Lead will be responsible for all administrative, operational and organisational duties relating to next generation ministries at Life Church, from Safeguarding to communications and events, bringing administrative alignment across the different age ranges.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Ministry Leadership (In partnership with the wider Leadership)

  • Enhance the experience, engagement and leadership of next generation provision within Life Church.

  • Spiritual direction over our next generation ministries and teams, cultivating them for the purposes of discipling our young people in the way of Jesus and in concert with the wider church’s discipleship framework and vision.

  • Mentorship of the student team leads, partnering with them for discipleship and mission to their peers.

  • Help lead our church family towards greater accessibility for and engagement with the next generation.

  • Create an innovative, relevant, next generation provision within the family of Life Church by coaching the church in outward looking and relational expressions of Christ’s love and mission to the next generation.

Support & Development

  • Develop curriculum across all next generation ministries, nurturing our young followers of Jesus in how to be active disciples.

  • Build relationships with parents and carers of our next generation.

  • Develop programs and events that cater to the spiritual and social needs of young people both inside and outside the church, helping move them towards being active participants in the wider life and vision of Life Church.

  • Take and active part in leading and facilitating such events and programs which enable them to grow in faith and maturity. The execution of events and programs which provide an excellent next generation provision within Life Church.

  • Maintain consistent, engaging and safe youth provision on a Sunday morning during our church gatherings. These must be well-planned, time limited, fun and practical and have a direct feed into enhancing our entire church family.

  • Provide a pathway and transition between each of our next generation ministries.

Recruitment & Training

  • Recruit a team of envisioned servers to provide for and progress next generation provision in Life Church in line with our safeguarding policy and procedures,.

  • Facilitate regular times of training and development for all next generation ministry servers.

  • Develop a process for annual transition and selection of our student ministry leads.

Administrative & Other

  • Carry out the administration tasks related to the role.

  • Ensure all activities are in alignment with our safeguarding policies and best practice.

  • Support the other areas of Life Church operations as and when required and agreed with the Lead Pastor and / or Operations Lead.

  • Engagement with, and Regular attendance of, staff meetings.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The Next Generation Lead must personally model the church’s purpose and values, lead services, pray with others and serve in pastoral situations. For these reasons there is a genuine occupational requirement for the post holder to be a committed evangelical Christian.
The role of the Next Generation Lead is spiritual, operational and heavily connected to the pastoral role of the Lead Pastor and therefore the character of the person is vital. It is important that the person, in addition to being a committed Christian, carries spiritual maturity, discretion and care for others whilst also having experience of leading teams. Personal experience within next generation environments is essential.

The Next Generation Lead should:

Experience, skills and knowledge
The Next generation Lead should:

  • Be confident giving spiritual and practical direction to teams

  • Have proven experience of working with young people.

  • Be educated to diploma/degree level and have undertaken relevant youth/ministry training.

  • Have experience of organising and attending a range of events, large and small including weekends away.

  • Be able to communicate, teach and apply the Bible into the lives of young people both within and beyond Life Church in relevant and engaging ways.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills.

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work with and enthuse volunteers.

  • Be computer literate and familiar with the use of social media

  • Be able to use their own initiative and have organisational and motivational skills.

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Be a good planner, meticulous and well organised

The role Next Generation Lead will bring with it relevant training and support, which will upskill the jobholder. They will be expected to commit to personal development in skills, well-being and theological/next generation training.

OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Holidays - 28 working days per annum (including public holidays)

  • PVG - This appointment is subject to the candidate obtaining a Disclosure Scotland Enhanced Check.

*The reason for the wide range in hours is so that we can be as agile as possible in the recruitment process. The minimum time required for the key elements of the role is 22.5 hours p/w (equivalent to 3 days p/w). The hours can be spread over the course of a week and include evenings and weekends.
**Salary of up to 30k is dependent on experience.
