Staying Connected: Covid-19

Who would have thought March 2020, we would be fighting over loo roll in the supermarket? It’s interesting how ‘normal life’ as we knew it has changed so much in the space of a few weeks. In this time of mass panic and fear, I constantly hear God say to me that ‘I should not fear’. I am reminded through His word of Who and What He is.

Staying Connected
When I started this post, we were advised to practice ‘Social Distancing’, as of now we have been told explicitly ‘Stay At Home’. It all seems a bit unreal, but I encourage us as representatives of Christ, that we live as true ambassadors of Jesus and obey the law (and guidance) of the land. Even as we work from home, let us do so diligently as we are working for the Lord. Pastor Jacob shared a really good message from Colossians 3 on work a few weeks ago (link), and he encouraged us with this scripture:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving”
Colossians 3: 23-34.

I for one know that the next few weeks will be tough, especially with all the social restrictions. We are relational beings; God created us to have a relationship with Him and with others. Although we are to stay at home, we can still stay connected with others. Thank God for technology and this is a great opportunity to use it positively.

Here are some ways to stay connected:

  • Keep in contact via phone, text, email, social media with family and friends.

  • Follow the church socials to stay updated on what’s going on (Facebook, Instagram, all links are at the top and bottom of this newsletter).

  • Buddy up with someone from your Life Group (or the wider church) and schedule a weekly catch up or prayer call.

  • Get the Bible app – you can add friends to have a little community going. This is a good way to read and discuss the Bible together.

  • Zoom/Skype parties.

  • Plug into Church! Service will continue to hold on Sundays, this will, of course, be online. We will also send out a midweek video reflection/communion exhortation. The link to our channel is here.

Remember Church is not the building, We are the Church, We are the body of Christ.
As a body, we are our brother’s keeper, so during this time let’s be particularly mindful of those amongst us who may be vulnerable. We are to demonstrate LOVE to others, grace, extend mercy and help where and when possible. And finally, just to encourage us that God is still God, despite what the media says, and how we may feel. God is Sovereign, He is still on the throne, He has not slept and has not left us. So let His peace guide and guard your heart during this time. Remember…

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2Timothy 1:7)

Let us stay in the place of prayer and remain full of faith and hope.

In Truth and with Love
Bisi
